Prof. Christian Tietje, President of Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, Visited SWUPL

  On the afternoon of November 8th, Prof. Christian Tietje, President of Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg(MLU) who was invited to 2019 Chongqing Talents Conference, visited SWUPL. Prof. Fu Zitang, President of SWUPL, met with President Christian Tietje. Hu Xiaochun, Head of Office of the Party and Government Affairs, Qin Jie, Dean of School of International Education, as well as Ju Yiya from Department of Student Exchanges, International Cooperation and Exchange Office attended the meeting.

  President Fu Zitang warmly welcomed President Christian Tietje and had an in-depth conversation with President Christian Tietje concerning the collaboration between SWUPL and MLU and particularly the study and life of German students in SWUPL. In addition, the two presidents conducted comprehensive discussions in issues of common concern, including the employment of students from the two universities and the infrastructure construction on campus, and expressed their wishes to continue promoting the long-term friendships and cooperation between the two sides.

  It was known that on the afternoon of November 9th, President Christian Tietje gave a speech entitled "University Quality and Urban Development" at the Roundtable for Presidents of Prestigious Universities at Home and Abroad. In his speech, Prof. Christian Tietje explained the concepts of universities and college education, the importance of students to universities and college education as well as the relationship between college education and urban economic development from a theoretical perspective. The content of the speech was both novel and insightful.

  Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg(MLU) is the earliest and most significant partner of SWUPL in Germany and its student exchange program with SWUPL is the largest of all in SWUPL. Every year, the two sides send a total of 17 students for exchanges and study. Furthermore, the cooperation between SWUPL and MLU is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (or DDAD, Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst ).
