They are participants, builders and leaders in the process of rule of law in China. The launch of “China's Great Prosecutors Forum” will enhance the cooperation between our University and the Supreme People's Procuratorate in theory and practice and promote the implementation of the “Project of Cultivating Excellent Legal Talents” to benefit law students, bring more outstanding legal talents to the country, and promote the process of rule of law in China.

Now,“China's Great Prosecutors Forum”, as a high-end platform and a well-known brand in the construction of SWUPL's academic culture, has made positive and effective efforts to improve the quality of talent cultivation and promote the rule of law in China.

  2. Guangming Forum

Guangming Forum is the first forum brand under the central party newspaper-Guangming Daily established to meet the needs of cultural system reform. Founded in May 2006, the Forum aims to build an authoritative platform to promote academic exchanges and demonstrate academic performance by inviting many renowned scholars in different academic fields from home and abroad to give lectures.

Initially published only in newspapers once a week, now Online Guangming Forum has been opened up, centered on hot issues of public concern, for exchange of views and spread of wisdom in the form of dialogue between the host and guests. The prerecorded broadcast of the program lasts for one hour.

In recent years, apart from inviting famous experts and scholars in various fields from home and abroad to give lectures and reports on site and having them published in the Guangming Daily, Guangming forum also sets foot on campus and, through joint forces of the“universities”and the“newspaper”, not only lets the Party's media go into broader public view, but also gives full play to the universities'role in social service and cultural guidance as well as a platform for teachers to demonstrate their achievements. Up to now, Guangming Forum has been successfully held in more than a dozen universities such as Renmin University of China, Xiamen University, South China University of Technology, Xinjiang Normal University and the lectures are published full-page in the Guangming Forum column of the Guangming Daily.

  3. Forum on Traditional Chinese Culture

  Forum on Traditional Chinese Culture:

Emphasis on Chinese Culture, Communication and Succession

Emphasis on Promotion, Education and Humanities

Scope: Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, seal carving, poetry, Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, Chinese medicine, ceramics, jade and other information related to Chinese culture.

Purpose: to study traditional Chinese culture, popularize historical knowledge, promote national spirit, and strive to make the past serve the present.

Traditional Chinese culture is defined mainly as traditional Chinese spiritual civilization based on Confucianism, covering such an extensive scope as a Hundred Schools of Thought, academic culture, and the Four Books and Five Classics, theories of Chinese medicine, drama, fancies of men of letters (lyre-playing, chess, calligraphy and painting), divination, literature, etc. As the essence of the fine traditional culture of the Chinese nation, traditional Chinese culture aims to “To ordain conscience for Heaven and Earth; to secure life and fortune for the people; to continue lost teachings for past sages; and to establish peace for all future generations”. In today's society lack of anchoring faith, the development of traditional Chinese culture is of far-reaching significance for the inheritance and innovation of our traditional culture and virtues, and the cultivation of cultural literacy and national spirit in Chinese people.

Culture is increasingly becoming an important source of national cohesion and creativity, an important factor in the competition for comprehensive national power, and an important support for economic and social development. The enrichment of spiritual and cultural life has become an increasingly ardent desire of our people. Therefore, we should cultivate a high degree of cultural consciousness and cultural self-confidence, raise the quality of national civilization, strengthen the country's cultural soft power, promote Chinese culture, and strive to build a socialist cultural power. For this, education of traditional Chinese culture should play the role of fundamental education of “knowledge”and“emotion”in“knowledge, emotion, will and action”-to strengthen national sentiments and enhance moral cultivation.

The Forum on Traditional Chinese Culture, as a way to inherit and communicate traditional Chinese culture, is conducive to its inheritance and flourishing. Such a platform will inspire teachers and students to be proud of China's 5,000-year-old splendid culture, and attract their devotion and enthusiasm to the study and inheritance of traditional Chinese culture.

  4. Jinkai Forum

Jinkai Forum is a platform for cultural and academic exchange jointly established by SWUPL and Chengdu Jinkai Law Firm (opened by alumni Ren Zhiyu and Liu Yanjun), inviting experts and scholars from home and abroad to give lectures in the form of a forum. Since the opening of the forum in October 2004, 29 lectures by 26 well-known experts and scholars in the humanities and social sciences from home and abroad have been given, covering such themes as Chinese cultural crisis and the way out, the contemporary university system and university spirit, comment on the Property Law of the People's Republic of China (Draft for Deliberation), the transformation of the value of legal philosophy, and the analysis of some issues of the people's court. Their profound academic thinking and keen critical spirit have injected new vitality into the academic tradition of SWUPL.

The Forum is known as the “Lecture Room” (a famous program from CCTV) in the legal profession, as it gathers the views of different schools of thought and incorporates the views of both China and abroad, covering humanities, education, administration, economy and other aspects. Famous scholars from home and abroad are invited to address the most interesting, cutting-edge and attractive topics selected from the hot topics of concern to the students, allowing the students to gain knowledge in a relaxed and enjoyable academic atmosphere and to better grasp the structure of knowledge.

The Forum is characterized by the pursuit of academic innovation, encouragement of individuality of thought, emphasis on both refined and popular taste, and emphasis on lecturer-audience interaction. It pursues the doctrinal and authoritative nature of content, and obscure and difficult knowledge are explained to students in an easy-to-understand form. During the process, the students'  enthusiasm is fully mobilized by domestic and foreign experts and scholars through interactions in a pleasant and relaxed learning atmosphere. Clashes of ideas may also occur, with each presenting their own views and opinions, and the ensuing innovative ideas will breathe new life into the academic issues.

The Forum not only feeds the students'strong desire for knowledge, but also refines their academic character of inclusiveness and rational criticism. Different scholars have different viewpoints, and students can hear different voices during the process, which is conducive to broadened mind and active thinking. The Forum strongly advances the development of the university's education and research endeavor, promotes academic exchanges, and activates academic freedom of thinking.

  5. Celebrity Forum

In order to seek coordinated development of law and non-law disciplines, the University established SWUPL Celebrity Forum in 2005, covering a wide range of fields such as economics, journalism, management, politics and international relations. Renowned experts, scholars or officials in their respective fields are invited to provide grander vision and more diverse perspectives to SWUPL students for their better understanding of society and observation of the world.

SWUPLs Celebrity Forum has invited famous teachers and social celebrities to give academic lectures, participate in exchange and thematic activities for promotion of discussion and interaction between students and teachers, students and students, and creation of a practical platform for daily communication and meeting. This has helped students to draw wisdom, enlighten their thinking, and plan for the future.

In the Forum, leading scholars discuss ideas, while the masters expound their wisdom and knowledge. As an important form of externalization of the campus culture, the Forum effectively enhances the exchange of ideas inside and outside the campus, between disciplines, scholars, scholars and students, and law and non-law disciplines, and creates a strong atmosphere for academic research. Participation in the Forum activities expands the professional structure and knowledge level of teachers and students, and stimulates their creative thinking and innovative consciousness. The fine tradition of “no blind faith for authority and emphasis on critical thinking” has also been inherited and carried forward.

The SWUPL's Celebrity Forum strengthens communication and interaction among different disciplines through various means, covering a wide range of topics. The exchange of ideas between different disciplines can develop and enlighten the mind, and the expression of viewpoints and justification can make the audience feel the depth and infinity of knowledge. At the same time, the exchange of ideas between different disciplines will yield positive chemistry. The same problem being understood and interpreted differently in different disciplines will encourage the scholars to conduct more in-depth and thorough research.

The Celebrity Forum on campus aims to promote interaction between students and teachers and provide a broader platform for their communication. Through this Forum, students can learn to think outside the box and look at an issue from various perspectives, gaining broader understanding of the world and widening horizons.

  6. Readysun Global Jurist Forum

The SWUPL Readysun Global Jurist Forum of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation is donated by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation in the amount of RMB 1 million under the entrustment of SWUPL's Class of 90 alumnus Feng Qinghua, President of Shenzhen Readysun Investment Group. The Forum aims to invite world-renowned jurists to give lectures at SWUPL for the promotion of the University's education towards a high level and internationalization and cultivation of innovative talents with an international perspective.

The purposes of the Forum are to introduce famous jurists from all over the world to students to widen their own horizons and enrich their knowledge; and to bring the world's leading jurists to the campus, so that the world can get to know about SWUPL.

The Global Jurist Forum provides a platform for the global legal community to gather together and exchange ideas and experiences with each other. The Forum emphasizes that in order to learn law well, one must first develop the habit of independent thinking, train one's thinking ability and cultivate legal sensitivity.

The Global Jurist Forum invites world-renowned jurists to our University for lectures and academic exchanges, and at the same time conducts teacher-student interactions in a variety of ways, including a question-and-answer session for students on the topic of the lecture, where students interact with world-renowned jurists with their own wisdom. Not only is it a process of knowledge expansion, but also an unforgettable life experience.

In today's globalized world, academic exchange must follow the global trend. Only by developing the education model to a high level in the world and towards the direction of internationalization can we cultivate a higher level of legal intellectual talents. The Readysun Global Jurist Forum provides a convenient platform for this.

  7. Southwest Law Forum

Founded in 1998, the Southwest Law Forum is a purely private forum. Unlike the ordinary lectures' one-way dissemination of information, the forum begins with lecture by the speaker, followed by comments from the guest speakers and questions from students, and the speaker then responds to the questions and the different points of view. Scholars express their views, and students feel the charm of scholarship.

The rules of the Southwest Law Forum clearly state:“No puffery, be faithful to the facts and scholarship”, which gives the forum a reputation in the legal circles for its fierce debates and harsh academic criticism. There is no president and no senior officer in the forum, only “forum participants” and scholars, no officials and leaders, not to mention instruction from school leaders. From the lecturer to the listeners to the person who organizes the lecture, all of them participate as a “private” person. In the Forum, the scholars do not brag about each other, will not hold back from rebuking each other; academically, there are only “professors”, no “president”, only academic and intellectual collisions and debates, no personal attacks.

On the one hand, scholars use the Forum as a channel to discuss various academic issues and exchange their own views, thus furthering their own understanding and comprehension of the issues; and on the other hand, through face-to-face interaction between teachers and students on academic issues, students' strong interest will be stimulated. Here, there is only scholarship, no position, title, fickleness, or bragging, and it is common for distinguished professors to be refuted on site by the freshman. Students and teachers can debate and argue freely and equally. In an atmosphere of equal exchange and mutual respect, the forum advocates and forms the “spirit of independence of thought, opinion and personality, no blind faith for authority, and no blind obedience to higher-up leaders”, which has won the love of many students. Take He Weifang's “The Beginning of China's Constitutionalism” for example, the students' academic frenzy can be seen from the small auditorium filled with nearly 3,000 students.

Since its inception, the Southwest Law Forum has brought together countless distinguished masters who have delivered profound lectures, making Southwest Law Forum a platform for legal scholars to exchange academic issues. Through this platform of academic exchange, wisdom is condensed and strength is gathered. Scholars are able to expound their views and refute each other's views to their heart's content. Although there are a variety of voices in the forum, the greatest significance is its guidance, and what the forum can provide to students is not much knowledge, but rather development of skepticism, critical awareness, independent thinking, and mental acuity. The Forum wants the best of the best, not to puff each other up! In the minds of the students, the Southwest Law Forum is their eternal spiritual home.

  8. the China's Great Judges Forum

The China's Great Judges Forum is established with the approval of the leadership of the Supreme People's Court pursuant to the Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Teaching and Scientific Research signed by the Southwest University of Political Science and Law, the Research Office of the Supreme People's Court, and the China Institute of Applied Jurisprudence. It is decided to establish an applied jurisprudence research base of the Supreme People's Court at SWUPL for jointly implementation of the“Project of Cultivating Excellent Legal Talents” and jointly holding of the China's Great Judges Forum. The Agreement specifically mentions that the two sides will jointly promote the “China's Great Judges Forum”. On the one hand, with the strong support of the Supreme People's Court, more judges and justices will come to the campus, and their rich experience in judicial practice will inspire students to work hard in their studies, establishes the unique thinking of a legal person, and leads them to dedicate themselves to the rule of law in China. On the other hand, the SWUPL's “debate culture” has exerted a great influence on teachers, students and even the nation as a whole, and has become a coronation of SWUPL's spirit and an essential component. As the University's important academic lecture brand, “Southwest Academic Lecture Hall” will add new content, dedicate a new chapter!

The Great Judges Forum will also launch two simultaneously recorded programs - the Judges Forum and the Life for Rule of Law, inviting outstanding judges from the court system across the country to talk about their life for rule of law, record the process of the rule of law in China, gather merits of lawyers, and compile series of Judges Forum lectures. These specific cooperation issues reflect not only the Supreme People's Court's deep affection for our University, but also an important measure to support the development of our University, which are of strategic importance for our University to build a high-level research university.
