Language Requirements
Students taking courses taught in Chinese should have a valid HSK4 certificate, or the equivalent language proficiency certificate. Students taking courses taught in English shall submit certificate of English proficiency (for non-native speakers).
Courses
There are 4-5 Law courses, 2-3 Economics courses, 2-3 Chinese Cultural courses and 3-4 Chinese Language courses each semester. And there is also a field trip per semester for exchange students.

Program Introduction
The Chinese Language Program of Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) is open to international students who love Chinese language. International students will study Chinese full-time in School of International Education, Southwest University of Political Science and Law. The program offers elementary, intermediate and advanced Chinese courses, with small class teaching. Students who have passed the Chinese language proficiency entrance test will enter the corresponding classes, and each class has about 15-25 students. Usually there are 14-20 class hours per week for one semester, with a total of 17 weeks.
The main courses include: Comprehensive Chinese, Oral Chinese, Chinese listening, Chinese writing, Chinese reading, Chinese culture, HSK training, etc. Students can choose one or two elective courses according to their own interests, such as Chinese calligraphy and Chinese martial arts.
To help students gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of China and Chongqing, SWUPL arranges cultural experience activities for program students every semester. The following information is for reference, and the specific activity schedule is subject to the latest notice from the International Student Office.

Upon completion of the study, students will be awarded a certificate of training and a transcript.
The study period of Chinese language program students is usually one semester, and they can apply for extension according to the situation. The maximum study period does not exceed 4 semesters.

About the Program
The LL.M (Master of Law) program is a two-year full-time degree program taught in English that focuses both on the educational and professional experiences of the international students. Graduation certificate as well as the master degree diploma will be awarded to those who complete all the credits and complete thesis defense successfully.
This program is open to all international students who are interested in studying Chinese law and experiencing multiculturalism, and are interested in researches about Chinese law and comparative law. The program aims to cultivate legal talents to promote the mutual trade partnership and friendly relationship between China and other countries.
The students will have the opportunity to have an in-depth understanding of the Chinese legal system, legal history, legal culture, and the business environment related to the international legal system.

Master program: All the master programs have a schooling system of 2 or 3 years full-time study. The programs are delivered in Chinese or English.
Doctor Program: The full-time PhD program has a schooling system of 3 years. All the programs are delivered in Chinese or English.

III. Application Criteria
• Applicants should be foreign students with a senior high school diploma, and should be no younger than 18 years old.
• According to the regulations released by Ministry of Education, China, if parent(s) was (were) a Chinese citizen settling in a foreign country at the time applicants were born, applicants must have obtained their current foreign citizenship for at least 4 years; meanwhile, in the latest 4 years (by each April 30th of the year), the applicants must have lived overseas for 2 years (Living overseas for 9 months can be converted to 1 year, which is subject to the exit-entry stamp on visa).
•Applicants should be in good health, be virtuous, be willing to abide by the laws and decrees of China and the rules and regulations of Southwest University of Political Science and Law, and respect Chinese traditions, customs, and social morality.
• Applicants should have the certificate of HSK4 with the score above 180.

STEP 1: Register your account and activate it
STEP 2: Fill out the application and upload all required documents as follows
• A formal personal photo
• Copy of valid passport (the photo page)
• The notarized high school transcript (if it is not in English or Chinese, please submit the Notarized English or Chinese translation)
• The notarized high school diploma. Prospective diploma recipients must submit official document issued by your current school to prove your current student status or expected graduation date. (If it is not in English or Chinese, please submit the Notarized English or Chinese translation)
• HSK certificate
• One Recommendation letter
• Physical examination record. It must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.

• Non-criminal record (within latest 6 months)
Applicants who fall under "Application Criteria" 2 need to scan the following documents into a PDF or Word file to upload:
(1) All personal information pages of passports that have been held;
(2) All visas, residence permits, and entry-exit stamp pages related to the facts of entering, exiting and legally living in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

VI. Interview
Students who pass the preliminary examination, will be notified to join the interview (video interview or on-site interview) via email by the respective schools. The interview will focus on the comprehensive ability including language (Chinese) proficiency, communication skills and so on.
VII. Fees
Tuition fee: 20,000RMB/year
Accommodation fee: four-bed room, 2,000RMB/year/person
VIII. Scholarships
Scholarships include SWUPL President Scholarship, Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor Scholarship and Chinese Government Scholarship. Assessment will be done on basis of your previous academic performance, language proficiency, and comprehensive performance during interview and so on.
